The brief
What the client needed
A dark 1920s living room with an old brick fireplace and no storage. The owners wanted warmth and a place for 600 books without losing the original character.
Our solution
We built full-height oak shelving on both sides of the fireplace, added a firewood niche, refaced the hearth and paneled the lower walls. Hidden LED strips light the shelves at night.
Scope of work
Two 9 ft oak bookcases with ladder rail
Firewood niche and hearth refacing
Wainscot paneling, 46 linear ft
Integrated LED shelf lighting
Oil finish matched to existing floors
Materials
White oak, FSC certified
Hardwax oil finish
Soft-close hardware
Dimmable 2700K LED

After

We spend every evening in this room now. The shelves look like they have always been there.
